Same-Day Crowns (CEREC) in Morgantown
Same-Day Crowns (CEREC) in Morgantown
Same-day crowns in Morgantown remove the part of crown treatment patients disliked most: the temporary that came loose at dinner and the second appointment two weeks later.
With CEREC technology at Bluegrass Oral Health Center–Morgantown, we scan the tooth, design the crown on screen, mill it in the office, and bond it the same morning you sit down. You leave with a finished tooth.
How Same-Day Crowns Work
We begin by preparing the tooth the same way any crown requires, removing decay or old failing restoration and shaping what remains. Instead of a tray of impression material, a small camera captures a digital scan of the tooth and its neighbors.
That scan becomes a three-dimensional model on the screen beside you. The doctor designs a crown to match the shape and bite of your natural tooth, then sends the design to an in-office milling unit that cuts it from a solid ceramic block. After glazing and a bite check, the crown is bonded into place.

Benefits of CEREC in Morgantown
- One appointment instead of two, which matters when work or farm hours are hard to shift
- No temporary crown to loosen, stain, or come off
- No tray of impression putty for patients with a strong gag reflex
- Solid ceramic that is strong and reflects light like enamel
- A digital record of your tooth we can reference in the future
For patients driving in from around Butler County, the single-visit part is often the deciding factor — one trip rather than two, with no second round of numbing.
When a Crown Is the Right Answer
A crown covers the whole visible tooth and is the right call when a filling would not survive. We recommend one after a root canal, for a cracked tooth, for a tooth where decay has undermined the cusps, or to replace a large old filling that is breaking down at its edges.
Crowns also restore dental implants and anchor bridges. If a tooth can be repaired with a conservative filling instead, we will say so — the goal is keeping tooth structure, not adding treatment.
Is Every Patient a Candidate?
Most are. Teeth with healthy roots and enough remaining structure to hold a crown are good candidates for CEREC. Some situations still call for a laboratory crown — complex cosmetic cases across the front teeth, for instance, where a ceramist layering shade by hand produces a better match.
Heavy grinders may need a different material choice, and we will discuss a nightguard so the new crown is not fighting the same forces that damaged the original tooth.
What Your Appointment Feels Like
Plan on roughly two hours from start to finish. The preparation and scan take the first portion of the visit; while the crown mills, you can read, watch television, or step out for coffee on the square.
When you return the crown is checked for fit and bite, adjusted if needed, and bonded. Sensitivity for a day or two is normal, and the tooth is ready for ordinary chewing right away.
Why Choose Our Morgantown Office
Not every rural practice invests in same-day crown technology. Ours did, because our patients in Butler County and along the Green River should not have to drive to a larger city for what is now routine care.
The same doctors who prepare the tooth design and seat the crown, so nothing is handed off mid-treatment. And because we are part of Bluegrass Oral Health, more complex cases can move to our Bowling Green and South Warren offices with the record already in hand.
